My name in April Mandeville and I was born at George Air Force Base in 1984 while my parents were stationed there from 1983-1989. My dad worked as SP flight chief next to the flight line then cross-trained to training management. I was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism at the age of 16 and had to have one of my para-thyroids removed along with the kidney stones they caused. My first child was born with a birth defect called gastroschisis that in its self is rare but add in the fact that my younger sister Ashley DeClerk (also born at GAFB) had a child who was also born with the same birth defect [gastroschisis] is very rare since the birth defect is not known to be hereditary.

Hello April, I came across your post. I am so sorry to hear about the health issues you and your family have suffered. My daughter was also born in 1984 at George AFB. I am glad that no one in our family have health issues. I have very fond memories of our life at George AFB. I am sad to hear about all the health issues people have suffered over the years and the what’s left of the buildings we once called home. I wish you and your family the best.
