My name is Beth Hack and I lived on GAFB from 1961-1968 as a dependent with six brothers and sisters. I am the oldest. My two youngest sisters were born there in 1963 and 1965. I looked up 11 of the bases we lived on including a sister born at Spangdalem AFB in Germany, and a brother born in France. Every base we lived on was contaminated! I was so shocked. At the German base in 1960, I think everyone on the entire base was deathly sick. I have never to this date seen my parents and neighbors so bad. Violently sick. Throwing up, couldn’t be in any light and no one could get out of bed. We had hundreds of families in each big apartment building sick, everyone on base was sick. I asked my mom and dad later what made us so sick and my dad told me they told Agent X got loose on base. Everyone was talking about it. It wasn’t a secret. Anyone that was there please contact me.
About GAFB, we played in the dirt, went to the toxic elementary school for 6 years, swam in the base pool, caddied for my dad on the golf course, and bathed and drank the water. Lots of water in that desert. We played in the Mojave river, and I just found out that the military dumped toxins into the river too. We lived at 105 Washington street behind our house was a dump-like place we played. It had all kinds of airport parts, had big barrels scattered. It had these big concrete slabs and 2 were on top of each other and looked like a plane. We dug down and made a cockpit and played war games in that dump. They were still doing their nuclear thing then too. My mother had 7 miscarriages at GAFB, including one full-term baby born at home dead with a hole in its heart handsome things. My dad called the doctor and he told them to bring the baby in to clarify the death. They walked in and my mom crying handed the baby over the doctor unwrapped her carefully wrapped blanket and looked at the child and threw it into the waste basket it was devastating. When she went to the doctors the next day they told her to not have any more kids or it would kill her or them. We never knew why tho. They really didn’t explain. Back then my parents and all of us kids believed vehemently in the USAF protecting us. We all blindly followed orders. Followed orders the same way with doctors. One of the two sisters born there had ovarian cancer at 17 years old. We sent her to MD Anderson from Alaska where we were stationed. Not good medical up there than in the 70s. She also blacked out for no reason since she could walk. She would get disorientated and then fall. Still happens and she is 58 years old. No docs could figure it out. last time she fell down a flight of stairs when she passed out.
She also had uterine cancer but was found early and several other odd anomalies My youngest has had really weird stuff. She had a big growth at the corner of her eye that kept growing when she was little. She collapsed during a meeting with the Joint Chief of Staff giving a speech on security and she buckled down to the floor. Squamous cell carcinoma behind her knee. She started having weird pains and we sent her to UCLA medical where they found rare choledochal cysts in the bile ducts of her liver. She was in her 40s They had to remove half of her liver, but couldn’t get a few because they were embedded too deep in the liver. A death sentence. She has had so many surgeries, 7 I know of to date, and also had a bone disease and had to have all teeth removed in her 40s. Too much to get into right now. I have to tell you that we have been a very athletic family and ate very well since we were Mormons. My third-up sister born in Germany which is also on the toxin list was diagnosed at 45 years old in 2007 with stage 3 melanoma. devastating too. We both were doing chemo at the same time too. She also had a growth on her thyroid for many years that doctors kept saying oh it’s nothing it’s benign. She started having extreme pain with it so we went to a specialist at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica California. All the doc did was feel her neck and said it was nothing and to take some meds for pain. She didn’t want meds. Finally, she went to a specialist who said it needed to come out. I have pictures of what they took out of her thin tiny neck. The doc took a picture with a measuring tape next to it they were so surprised it was huge. My brother was born with some kind of inner ear or balancing issue. couldn’t fly or boat or do rides at fairs. he also has cognitive problems. one of my brothers born in Long Beach in his fifties had a rare thrombosis type thing. Was very bad. He is so thin now and weak. My self I was sick for so much of my life. Born at FT. Belvoir, Va. I had an infection, a geographic tongue which they all said had no known cure or why. I found out later in 2019 that it was because I Have two very rare immune deficiency’s and one is associated with it. My tongue burned, and at times chunks came off of it. It has wort-looking things all spread out on it with huge deep fissures. I had lung infections, was allergic at two months old to flu, and types shots and egg albumin were just the beginning. I had weak bones and broke my feet and legs constantly. Bronchial infections, liver, kidney, UTIs. It’s been a nightmare. When I was 26 years old in 1984 I was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma and given 3-6 months to live. I had a 7-year-old son and a husband that was a functional alcoholic. I had to make my own funeral arrangements etc. I flew all over the country to specialists because in 1984 no one got cancer at my age and melanoma affected only 1% of the world. was rare there. Decided to fight! I formed the first American CancerSociety chapter on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. I became Vice President and then President. I owned a cleaning company then with 25 employees, was head of the young women’s association at our church, and also did home teaching in our church. I was a very busy lady. I learned all there was to know about melanoma and began giving seminars to doctors all over Alaska, Washington, and California. Was in the newspapers and on tv a whole lot. It shocked people to hear my diagnosis and see me. One newspaper called me a green-eyed vivacious blonde spreading info on Melanoma. I was on the crusade of my life. I went on an experimental vaccine and out of 180 of us, I am the only one that made it. So I donated blood etc to my Doctor to study better ways to diagnose melanoma and what gave me that edge over everyone. He treated me for free until his death. he was one of the top Melanoma specialists in the world. He had 11 international offices.
I have had many doctors comment when they see my family history that we had to be exposed to something. I always answered with a yeah, all the insecticide they sprayed from those trucks all over the bases. I had no idea how deep this goes. I finally got diagnosed in Mexico believe it or not. I had the same thing, blisters all inside my mouth and down my throat and tongue, on my feet big ones. Swollen lips, legs feet, and sick as hell. This doctor was so on it. I told him I have been going to doctors my whole life with no diagnosis. I had begged docs to please find something besides all these antibiotics they have put me on since a child. Air Force Academy gave my sister and I bags of erythromycin too. I had been to Mayo everywhere. The first thing he said was what was I on. I said amoxicillin this time. He told me I was allergic to it and had an immune problem. Then I was in the new hospital there and four specialists did tests and said the same thing. When I left they told me to see an immunologist. They wouldn’t let me leave until all swelling etc down. First time in years I felt halfway decent. I got back in June of 2019 and couldn’t get into a doc until Oct. anywhere. I was in Napa California. Well got in there the doc did a bloodiest and verified they were right. They wanted to put me on gamma-led which they would come to my boat every weekend and infuse name with an IV for 4 hours with plasma donated by no less than 3,000 people per bag. I got a rare European strain of hep C from when I did that vaccine that I mentioned earlier. I had to wait until someone died from melanoma of the liver and then they would inject the liver into me alternating between legs because it was so painful each week. My nurse used to get tears in her eyes every time she did it. But hey I made it right!? Had to go on chemo for that. Now I have a rash all over my back that’s been here a year. Dermatologists in Texas referred me to the MD Anderson Melanoma clinic. It’s booked out too for months. I don’t know what’s happened to our medical fields but they have gotten worse than better. It’s Benn never-ending. Also several of us have some cognitive problems that aren’t outwardly noticed but it’s been devastating. My father had a heart attack in his sleep but lived. he has Melanoma called desk-plastic neurotrophic which weaves around your nerves. They removed big parts of both sides of his face and lymph nodes in the neck. Now I am on the biggest mission of my life to get to the bottom of this and get all of us that need help GET HELP! Today is day one.
On another note, my husband was stationed at Ft McClellan Al. where they tested all of the toxins and chemicals. He has tumors bad, no sense of smell, and other Parkinsons’ signs. We are seeing docs at VA both of us next week. I was in the ANG and also Basic at Lackland and tech school Buluxy. In the Philippines at Clark AFB my friends that lived off base used to come on to get base water because the base told us not to drink the water ONLY drink safe base water. I am furious that they are making all of us go through a bunch of unnecessary stuff. Everything they have done is in print and right before us and they knew for decades. What happened to no one left behind? From what I have looked up, every single base I lived on was contaminated and the surrounding towns around it. The civilians have had some luck in getting restitutions, but I feel like all of the underground water flows and connects everywhere. Looking at the map of the bases we lived on there is no clean water near any and it’s all under the U.S. They have knowingly poisoned half of the world and are still blowing us off. We have all been patriots including our families, and would give our lives for this country! It’s PAYBACK time people.
