My name is Ruth (Dean) Klonowski. I was stationed at George AFB from 1987 to 1991, assigned to the 35th Tactical Fighter Wing, 21st TFS. I worked as a Communication and Navigation Systems Specialist on the flight line. I lived in the barracks and dorms, and in Adelanto. I remember during base orientation (January 1988) we were told not to get pregnant, it was included in the don’t drink and drive, don’t do drugs, and no under-age drinking part of the orientation. It wasn’t singled out, and they didn’t elaborate on it at all. While stationed at George I suffered from migraines and needed to take medication daily. I also ended up in the ER frequently and was diagnosed as being anemic. I had issues with frequent vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, and fatigue. I could easily sleep 10-14 hours a day and still be tired. I rarely ate at the chow halls because the food tasted funny to me, and I never liked the taste of the water, but I drank it. I also had heavy and irregular periods and often missed work due to these issues.
After discharge, I lived in Apple Valley and the migraines, vomiting, diarrhea, and anemia became less frequent. I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism 1 year after separation at age 28 and have had to take medication ever since. I had 3 miscarriages and was unable to carry to term. I was diagnosed with a hypercoagulation disorder that caused the miscarriages, it does not run in my family. I suffer from ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, and endometriosis. I have rheumatoid arthritis, chromosomal defects, and ataxia. I have always wondered why I have these issues and no one in my family does. I think I found the reason why I found this website.
